I've owned both of Carrie's previous albums. I listened to this one IN FULL, at her official website. 3.8 stars.

I actually ended up buying both Some Hearts and Carnival Ride at one point in my life. I did sell them both, however. Some Hearts was alright, but it was just too country for me. Carnival Ride, although I sold that too, was better to me and before I sold it, I decided to burn a copy just in case I wanted to come back to it. That CD is on my iPod.
Anyway, onto Play On.
1. Cowboy Casanova; B-. A catchy ode to heartbreaking guys all over the world, hanging out in bars. I like this song a lot now. It grew on me.
2. Quitter; C+. Not quite as good as 'Cowboy Casanova'. A decent, laid-back track to listen to while cleaning the house or going for a walk.
3. Mama's Song; C+. Nice, clean vocals with a good sound to it. It's a slower song about a girl getting married to a great man.
4. Change; C+. A song about choosing to help those in need or turning the other cheek. Good, but not great.
5. Undo It; B-. The third single from the album, 'Undo It' is another energetic number about how a man does her wrong. I hope some of these types of songs are just for entertainment and not what she really went through! Love the na na na, na na na's. :)
6. Someday When I Stop Loving You; B. I absolutely love this song. It's so beautiful and calming. Features nice lyrics.
7. Songs Like This; B-. This song is another good, upbeat track. 'Songs Like This' contains the best intro with nice voice work. It's about (another) no-good guy who does Carrie wrong and even cheats on her. I guess you could say she's disappointed that she has to sing yet another song like this but the guys keep screwing up. The vocals are truly its saving grace.
8. Temporary Home; B-. Another ballad-type song that's slower with meaning. The protagonists in the stories featured acknowledge that the place they are at is only temporary and soon will be moving on to bigger and better things in the future if only they hold on to hope. The 2nd single.
9. This Time; C+. This song isn't quite up to snuff with the some of the other songs to me. It doesn't have much punch. However, you can snap along to it.
10. Look At Me; B-. This song may come off as boring to some, but I actually like it. A girl is being appreciated for who she is in this song by her partner. It's actually a pretty sweet song. Has a major country feel.
11. Unapologize; C. I don't know if I like this song or not. I guess it's OK. Not the strongest...
12. What Can I Say? (Feat. Sons Of Sylvia); B-. This song is good. I love Carrie's falsetto in this song so much and how she uses it so often.
13. Play On; C-. I'm not crazy about this one and it's the worst track on the album. Very repetitive.
It almost pains me to say this but this album is just a tad uneven. There are either good songs or average ones present. The vocals are pretty much always on point and the writing is decent, but a few of the songs aren't all that strong. The upbeat numbers work the strongest but there are only 3. The ballads are strong, but overall, the disc could have been more consistent.
Still, a good country pop album with some rock thrown in their for crossover appeal. Liking that aspect of the album though is gonna be up to you. Most of you that wanted to, have probably heard this album already. But for those still trying to make up your mind if you should buy this or get the stronger songs, I hope this review helps in some of your decisions!
By the way, if you found this review helpful, please don't be afraid to give me the helpful vote because I'd really appreciate it. Let's see this review toward the top!

Bad Music by a Good Singer

| Carrie is a good singer, but these songs are mostly trashy and too pop-sounding for her voice. In "Undo It," she is just yelling, and in "Cowboy Casanova," she is using trashy similes like "that boy is like a disease." What was she thinking? I hated almost every song on this album. |

| The cd was in perfect condition, but the case was broken (which can be easily overlooked) but it was covered in all kinds of sticky goo. Gross! |
